U.S. Senate Embarks On ACA Repeal And Replace Legislation

Staff Contact: Dave Dillon

The U.S. Senate has approved a procedural motion allowing debate on legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The final vote was 51 to 50 with Vice President Pence casting the deciding vote in favor. The Senate had a number of options and amendments to consider, but all of them first required approval of an initial procedural vote to debate the version of the American Health Care Act passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in May. Although debate will now occur, no consensus has been reached on the policy differences that have fractured the Senate Republican Caucus in the past weeks.
