Congressional Committees Review Hospital Issues

This week, several congressional committees will be considering legislative proposals affecting hospitals. The House of Representatives’ Committee on Ways and Means will hold a markup session to consider and amend H.R. 5273, dubbed the “Helping Hospitals Improve Patient Care Act of 2016.” A previous article provided additional detail on its contents. On Tuesday, May 24, the House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Committee will hold a hearing on program integrity in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. On Wednesday, May 25, the House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee will review cybersecurity initiatives and issues at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Missouri Congressman Billy Long is a lead co-sponsor of legislation on this topic.
