U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is expanding her investigation “into the causes of the current opioid epidemic.” Sen. McCaskill has sent letters to four additional pharmaceutical manufacturers and three opioid distributors regarding the distribution system for opioids, and efforts to detect and prevent the diversion of opioids for illicit use. The investigation is being done under the auspices of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, where Sen. McCaskill is the senior Democratic member.
