Governor Approves Medicaid And Women’s Heart Health Legislation
Governor Jay Nixon has signed two bills enacted in the 2010 state legislative session that address MO HealthNet issues. Senate Bill 842 and Senate Bill 1007 have both common and distinct components. Nixon also signed House Bill 1898, which expands a women’s health disease screening program to include heart disease risk assessments for women who meet age and income eligibility guidelines. Implementation is contingent on federal funding.
CMS Will Not Automatically Deny Claims For Missing PECOS Enrollment Deadline
MHA members have expressed confusion about implementation dates in the May 5 Medicare provider/supplier enrollment changes interim final rule. A Medicare news release addresses those concerns. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will not implement changes that would automatically reject Medicare claims based on orders, certifications and referrals made by providers who have failed to meet the July 6 deadline for enrollment. CMS said more than 800,000 providers have successfully enrolled through the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System, but some providers have encountered problems. The agency will continue to remind providers of the need to enroll, guide them on the enrollment process and “process all applications expeditiously.” Physicians and other providers who have not successfully enrolled or revalidated their Medicare enrollment by July 6 will receive the letter at the end of Transmittal 712. Anyone with questions or concerns about how this may affect them should contact CMS’ Patricia Peyton at 410/786-1812.
