Committee Hosts Hearing On ‘Meaningful Use’

The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics is holding a hearing on “meaningful use” Tuesday and Wednesday at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services must define a meaningful use of health information technology. Providers will receive incentive payments for adopting this technology. The agenda and links to both live and archived broadcasts are available online.
MHA To Offer Webinars On Recovery Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provides approximately $19 billion in funding to help hospitals and physicians adopt health information technology. HIDI will be offering Webinars during the next few months to assist hospitals in developing strategies to optimize the health information technology opportunities outlined in the ARRA. The first Webinar, planned for mid-May, will provide an overview of the health information technology provisions in the ARRA. Finalized details about this Webinar will be published in HIDI TECH CONNECT.
AHA Releases Legislative ARRA Advisory

An ARRA legislative advisory from the American Hospital Association contains frequently asked questions, a time line of key dates and a link to AHA’s Medicaid incentive payment calculator. AHA acknowledges many questions remain unanswered and await clarification through rulemaking. This advisory and additional information is available to AHA members online under the “Highlights” section.
Obama Names Nation’s First Chief Technology Officer

President Obama named Aneesh Chopra to serve as the nation’s first chief technology officer. He is currently Virginia’s secretary of technology and previously worked as managing director with the Advisory Board Company, a health care advisory and research firm.
