At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to:
- describe recent trends in the employment and earnings of hospital registered nurses
- discuss the most recent trends in projections of the future age and supply of R.N.s
- describe how hospital leaders, physicians and R.N.s view the effects of the current hospital nursing shortage on the quality of care provided in hospitals
- identify how the public views the nursing profession
- discuss at least three key challenges facing the nursing profession
- discuss recommendations for how nursing schools and hospitals can work together to address key challenges
- describe the economic and financial implications of the workforce shortage on the health care environment
- describe the future health care environment, including academic requirements

How do Americans view the nursing profession? How does the workforce match up to their views? Buerhaus will present key trends and recent data on the employment and earnings of the R.N. workforce. He’ll also discuss the major challenges facing hospitals and nursing education programs to ensure the quality and safety of care.

Registered Nurses — This program is approved for 4.2 contact hours in nursing. The Missouri Hospital Association is approved as a provider for continuing education in nursing by the Missouri Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
The Missouri Hospital Association/MCE is authorized to award 4.2 hours of pre-approved Category II (non-ACHE) continuing education credit for this program toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward Category II credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the ACHE for advancement or recertification. |
