JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Hospital Association presented a 2007 Excellence in Governance award to Dean C. Henricksen, president of Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital’s Spelman Medical Foundation in Kansas City, Mo., in recognition of his contributions to the health care community.

Henricksen was one of six trustees from across the state honored during a June 14 presentation at MHA’s annual Leadership Forum in Lake Ozark, Mo. He has served as the president of the hospital’s Spelman Medical Foundation since 2005.

“Dean has unselfishly devoted more than two decades of his life to improving the quality and accessibility of health care services in the Kansas City Northland,” said G. Richard Hastings, president and chief executive officer of Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, Mo. “His ability to bring together diverse groups that are focused on a common journey has been essential in building Platte County’s first acute care hospital and the Northland’s only Center for Women’s Care and in developing and expanding Saint Luke’s Health System.”

Henricksen has served on the board of the Clay-Platte Development Corp., City of Parkville Economic Development Board and the Platte County Economic Development Board. He was president of the Parkville Rotary, treasurer of the Platte County Industrial Development Authority and has served as both treasurer and president of Tri-County Mental Health Services Inc.

Since 1985, MHA’s Excellence in Governance award has been given annually to hospital trustees for their dedication to exceptional health care. Award recipients are chosen by MHA’s district council presidents.

Other award recipients include John W. “Jack” Forbes, former board president of I-70 Medical Center in Sweet Springs, Mo.; Donald G. LaFerla, board chair of McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage, Mo.; William R. Riggs, board treasurer of Liberty Hospital; Merlyn Shephard, board member of Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, Mo.; and Maurice Watson, board member of Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, Mo.

The Missouri Hospital Association is a not-for-profit association in Jefferson City that represents 141 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its members, the association offers continuing education programs on current health topics and seeks to educate the public, as well as legislative representatives, about health care issues.
