JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Crystal Haynes, chief executive officer of Saint Louis University Hospital, was installed as the 2008 chair of the Missouri Hospital Association Board of Trustees at MHA’s 85th Annual Convention & Trade Show held Nov. 7-9 in Osage Beach, Mo.

Haynes’ one-year term as chair will begin Jan. 1, 2008.
During an installation ceremony held Nov. 8, Haynes pledged the oath of office given by Chair Michael E. Henze, chief executive officer of Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Mo.
During her term as chair, Haynes’ duties will include overseeing and directing activities of the MHA Board of Trustees, acting as a day-to-day adviser to MHA and testifying before committees of the Missouri General Assembly and Congress. She also will lead a Missouri delegation to Washington, D.C., twice during the year and act as a state and national spokeswoman for Missouri’s hospitals.
Haynes, who served as chair-elect in 2007 and board treasurer in 2006, is a permanent trustee of MHA’s board. A board member since 2003, she has served as a member of MHA’s executive committee since 2005 and is a past president of the St. Louis Metropolitan Hospital Council. In 2006, Haynes received MHA’s Visionary Leadership Award.
A member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Haynes has more than 25 years of experience in health care. In 2007, Haynes was elected to a three-year term serving on the American Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees. In August 2002, she was honored by the St. Louis Business Journal as one of the “Most Influential Businesswomen in St. Louis.” Tenet Healthcare Corp. named her to the company’s Circle of Excellence in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Before joining Saint Louis University Hospital in December 2000, Haynes served as chief operating officer at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Her previous positions include vice president of professional services at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla., and chief operating officer at Capitol Hill Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Haynes earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas in Denton and a master’s degree from The George Washington University. She serves on the United Way of Greater St. Louis Board of Directors and as a commissioner of the Garden District of St. Louis. She was honored by the National Conference for Community and Justice in 2006.
The Missouri Hospital Association is a not-for-profit association in Jefferson City that represents 145 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its membership, the association offers continuing education programs on current health care topics and seeks to educate the public, as well as legislative representatives, about health care issues.
