JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — David R. Carpenter, president and chief executive officer of North Kansas City Hospital, was voted 2008 chair-elect of the Missouri Hospital Association Board of Trustees at MHA’s 85th Annual Convention & Trade Show held Nov. 7-9 in Osage Beach, Mo.

Carpenter’s term as chair-elect will begin Jan. 1, 2008. He will serve as MHA chair in 2009.
As chair-elect, Carpenter will be responsible for leading MHA board meetings in the chair’s absence. He also will join the executive team in presenting the views of Missouri’s hospital community to Missouri’s congressional delegation.
A member of MHA’s Board of Trustees, Carpenter served on the Budget and Finance Committee from 2001 to 2006. He also served as a member of the Legislative Advisory Council from 1999 to 2006, where he served as chair from 2003 to 2006. In 2002, Carpenter served as president of MHA’s Northwest District Council.
Before joining North Kansas City Hospital in 1999, Carpenter was senior vice president and administrator at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborne in Arizona and served as president and chief executive officer of Hadley Regional Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
Carpenter earned a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., a master’s degree in health care administration from Trinity University in San Antonio and a law degree from the Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kan. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on both the Missouri and Kansas ACHE advisory councils.
An ex-officio member of the Mid-America Health Alliance Board, Carpenter is a board member and past chair of Associated Purchasing Services in Overland Park, Kan.
Since 2001, Carpenter has served as a board member of the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce and the North Kansas City Business Council. He served as the business council president in 2002.
The Missouri Hospital Association is a not-for-profit association in Jefferson City that represents 145 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its membership, the association offers continuing education programs on current health care topics and seeks to educate the public, as well as legislative representatives, about health care issues.
