JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Owen Ransdell, a volunteer at Hannibal Regional Hospital, has earned top honors from the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries as the 2007 “Auxilian of the Year.”
The award was presented Thursday, Nov. 8, during an awards luncheon at the Missouri Hospital Association’s 85th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Osage Beach, Mo.
“Owen’s service to the hospital auxiliary and community has been truly exceptional,” said John Grossmeier, president and chief executive officer of Hannibal Regional Hospital. “His tireless volunteerism has been a significant factor in the success of many auxiliary outreach and fundraising efforts.”
Ransdell joined the auxiliary in 1997 and has served as an auxiliary board member for eight of the past 10 years. In 2000, 2002 and 2004, Ransdell was recognized for his “above and beyond” service to the auxiliary. He was chosen as the auxiliary’s Volunteer of the Year in 2007.
Throughout his decade of service, Ransdell has dedicated countless hours to auxiliary sponsored projects. He was a leading volunteer in the hospital’s Lifeline program, which offered subscription-based in-home emergency alert services. He also has volunteered annually for the community’s 10K run and 5K walk.
As chair of the weekly bingo committee, Ransdell has coordinated 10 volunteers and between 175 to 200 players each Friday for eight years. Proceeds from bingo support the hospital’s capital needs. The success of the program has allowed the auxiliary to pledge $500,000 toward construction of an Interventional Cardiology Institute.
“Owen shares the hospital’s vision and donates his time to help us achieve our goals,” Grossmeier said. “Although he shuns recognition for his efforts, his years of exceptional service to the hospital and the community warrant this acknowledgement.”
In addition to this award, the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries also recognized the following as “Auxiliaries of the Year.”
- University Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia, Mo., for an auxiliary with fewer than 60 members
- Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, Mo., for an auxiliary with 60-150 members
- St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo., for an auxiliary with 151-300 members
