JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Karen O’Sullivan Wegener, board chair of Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, Mo., has been appointed to the Missouri Hospital Association Board of Trustees. Her one-year term began Jan. 1.

As a member of the MHA Board of Trustees, Wegener’ responsibilities include overseeing the administration of MHA and developing association policies.
“We are pleased to have someone with Karen’s depth of experience assume this important leadership role,” said Marc D. Smith, MHA president.
Wegener has been a board member of Barton County Memorial Hospital since 1999 and has served as board chair since 2004. She has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia and a master’s degree in nursing from Washington University in St. Louis. She served as the director of nursing at Nevada State Hospital in Nevada, Mo., from 1990 to 1996 and as administrator of Willow Crest Hospital in Miami, Okla., from 1987 to 1990. Previously, she held various administrative, nursing and educational positions at hospitals and universities throughout Missouri and Kansas. She currently operates a small business in Lamar.
The Missouri Hospital Association is a not-for-profit association in Jefferson City that represents 151 Missouri hospitals. In addition to representation and advocacy on behalf of its membership, the association offers continuing education programs on current health care topics and seeks to educate the public, as well as legislative representatives, about health care issues.
