The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation that would create a regulatory reform commission. Entitled the “Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome (SCRUB) Act,” H.R. 998 includes a stated goal of reducing the cumulative costs of federal regulation by at least 15 percent with a minimal reduction in the overall effectiveness of such regulation. The lead sponsor of the legislation is Rep. Jason Smith, representing Missouri’s eighth congressional district.

State Senate Approves PDMP Legislation

Staff Contacts: Daniel Landon or Rob Monsees

By a vote of 20-13, the Missouri Senate has given its final approval to Senate Bill 74. It is one of several bills pending in the Missouri Senate that would create a state prescription drug monitoring program. Its sponsor is Sen. Rob Schaaf, who has been a long-time opponent of PDMP legislation because of privacy concerns. The legislation put forward by Sen. Schaaf does not give prescribers or dispensers direct access to PDMP data. It also would block an initiative for county governments to collaborate to operate a shared PDMP. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives, which “remains focused” on a broader PDMP proposal.
