CMMI Releases Report To Congress

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation released a new report to Congress which provides an update about initiatives and actions taken that support health care innovation. Some of the highlights in the report include the following.

  • more than 30 new payment models have been launched
  • investments in electronic medical records, along with a data and analytics infrastructure, are sparking a new set of innovative companies
  • an estimated 18 million individuals have been impacted by services provided by more than 207,000 health care providers participating in CMS Innovation Center payment and service delivery models and initiatives
  • Medicare has exceeded the goal to tie more than 30 percent of fee-for-service payments by the end of 2016 through alternative payment models
  • Medicare is on pace to reach a goal of tying 50 percent of fee-for-service payments by the end of 2018

CMS Releases Biweekly Marketplace Enrollment Snapshot

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the enrollment snapshot of people who signed up for health insurance coverage through the ninth week of open enrollment. Through Dec. 31, 2016, 8.8 million people signed up for insurance, which is up from 8.6 million last year. Of the 8.8 million this year, 2.2 million are considered new consumers. In Missouri, 249,732 plan selections have been made, which is lower than last year’s activity through week nine of 258,696. Open enrollment ends Tuesday, Jan. 31.

CMS Revises Hospital Guidance On Justice-Involved Individuals

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a survey and certification guidance in May 2016 regarding justice-involved individuals. At that time, CMS took the position that hospitals were not allowed to have specialized units for that population. On Dec. 23, 2016, CMS issued revised guidance for surveyors to remove the requirements for, and all references to, hospital specialty units to ensure that hospitals are able to meet the unique security needs for justice-involved individuals who receive treatment.

DHSS Posts Hospice And Home Health Annual Statistical Reports

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has posted the home health and hospice annual statistical reports for 2016 on its website. DHSS reminds agencies that annual reporting is not optional, and that reports are due no later than Tuesday, Jan. 31.

MAFP Seeks Nominations For Family Physician Of The Year Award
