Emergency Preparedness Conditions Of Participation Effective

Staff Contact: Jackie Gatz or Sarah Willson

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' new Conditions of Participation for hospitals, critical access hospitals and an additional 15 provider and supplier organizations are effective today. The final rule, published in the Sept. 16 edition of the Federal Register, includes a one-year implementation period. The rule is designed to establish consistent emergency preparedness requirements for participating health care providers, increase patient safety during emergencies and facilitate a more coordinated response to natural and man-made disasters. To assist members with compliance, MHA has developed the following resources.

  • a four-part video series to provide hospital staff the knowledge to understand the rule and prepare for implementation
  • an inside track publication outlining the regulatory requirements, including self-assessment checklist
Additional resources, including a crosswalk of existing tools and resources, are under development.
