CMS Announces Outreach And Education Webinars

The next Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Program webinar is scheduled for Monday, July 25. The webinar, titled “CY 2017 OPPS/ASC Proposed Rule: Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Program,” will highlight OQR program developments slated for implementation in the 2017 final rule and how hospitals can provide input on program changes. The webinar is offered at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Registration is required.

An outreach and education webinar for participants in the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program is scheduled at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1. The webinar, titled “Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Validation Program Healthcare-Associated Infection Validation Template Submission,” will provide information regarding the fiscal year 2018 CMS validation template submission process. Registration is required.

CMS Posts Additional Sepsis Guidance

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has posted an additional guidance document for the Early Management Bundle, Severe Sepsis/Septic Shock measure set (SEP-1) for implementation with acute inpatient discharges from July 1 through Dec. 31, 2016. The document, Sepsis (SEP-1), Additional Notes for Version 5.1 Abstraction, provides clarification for SEP-1 data elements made in response to FAQs, and should be reviewed in conjunction with all SEP-1 documentation, including the specifications manual. The guidance can be accessed on QualityNet.

AHRQ Medication-Assisted Treatment Of Opioid Abuse Grants

Yesterday, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality announced an investment of approximately $9 million in grants throughout the next three years, with a goal of supporting rural primary care practices in delivering medication-assisted treatment for approximately 20,000 patients addicted to opioids. The initiative will explore how providers can overcome the barrier of access to MAT in rural communities. MAT is an evidence-based therapy for assisting people with opioid addiction that involves using medication and behavioral support to empower patients to manage their addiction.
