CMS Updates OP-33 Measure Information Form

Staff Contact: Sherry Buschjost

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has advised that the measure information form for OP-33: External Beam Radiotherapy for Bone Metastases measure is being updated. The measure was adopted for the calendar year 2018 payment determination in the CY 2016 outpatient PPS/ambulatory surgical center final rule. Hospitals participating in the Outpatient Quality Reporting Program are required to begin collecting data on the measure effective Jan. 1. Data collected for CY 2016 will be submitted during the time period of Jan. 1, 2017, to May 15, 2017. Updates involve the inclusion of radiotherapy delivery CPT® codes in the denominator criteria and additional exclusion and ICD-10 codes for spinal cord compression and cauda equina in the denominator exclusions. CMS is in the process of updating the OQR specifications manual to reflect the changes. In the interim, hospitals can begin identifying their eligible cases and using the updated list of denominator exclusions.
