MHA Center For Education — Webinars

careLearning WebinarsMCE Webinars

Have there been educational programs you wanted to attend but couldn't because of scheduling conflicts or travel restraints? We understand your time is valuable, and the MHA Center for Education is pleased to offer Webinars for hospital staff.

What is a Webinar?
A Webinar is a live, interactive presentation using the Internet and telephone conference lines. Participants download handout materials from the Internet and view the presenter's program on the computer screen as they listen to the presentation over the telephone connection. Participants can ask questions over the phone or the Internet during the presentations, which typically last one to two hours.

How much does a Webinar cost?
Most Webinars usually cost $295; however, there are some exceptions. Webinars are very cost-effective solutions because hospitals may sign several people to participate in a Webinar, and they only pay one fee for the entire group.

Webinars Available Through careLearning
Hospital staff can participate in Webinars and educational programs from careLearning, an Internet-based education management solution.
The sole purpose of careLearning is to develop and deliver a range of just-in-time training and education for health care providers and provide the ability to manage and track employee, physician and nonemployee records. For more information, please contact Beth Morell, MHA vice president of communications and education.

MCE Webinars
The MHA Center for Education also hosts Webinars on various health topics. Individuals interested in the following Webinars should contact MHA staff before the registration deadline. Once registrations are received, MHA staff will e-mail course access information to registrants before the program.

We Have a Situation . . . Disciplinary Action or Mentoring Opportunity?
9-10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29

Registration Deadline: Tuesday, July 1

Of all the definitions for the word “discipline,” only one of them includes the word “punishment.” Most employees do not intentionally violate policies and procedures. No one looks forward to handling this type of situation, but sometimes it is unavoidable. Check the policy and then check your own attitude. Can a potentially uncomfortable meeting turn into a mentoring opportunity? A dignity and respect approach might make the difference.

Disruptive Behavior: Impacting Quality and Safety
What Hospitals Need to Know About the New Joint Commission Standards
9-10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14
Registration Deadline: Friday, Aug. 1

The new Joint Commission standard on disruptive behavior will help hospitals understand the effects that disruptive behavior has on patient safety. These standards become effective Jan. 1, 2009. Disruptive behavior can be displayed by any health care employee, and there are various categories of disruptive behavior. It is imperative that health care leaders be prepared to address such disruptive behavior at any level. This program will help hospital leaders create a process and structure to allow a culture of quality and safety to flourish.
