CDC FluSurge Model Estimates
States: MissouriIllinoisKansas
Metropolitan Areas: Kansas CitySt. Louis
Regions: ABCDEFGHI

To open these documents, click the "enable macros" tab. This application provides one model and is intended for planning purposes only.

Data sources include the annual licensing survey and census data. Please note these only are estimates and are based on the following assumptions.

  • A moderately severe strain with a 35 percent attack rate lasting eight weeks in duration.
  • The licensed and staffed bed counts are from the most current annual licensing survey. Bed counts include all acute/critical care, pediatric and specialty hospital beds but do not include NICU beds.
  • Ventilator counts are based on the March 2007 hospital capacity assessment results; these numbers are our best estimate. The ventilator count includes all adult, pediatric and adult/pediatric mechanical ventilators but does not include other respiratory support equipment (such as CPAP).
  • The model assumes only 20 percent of ventilators would be available for patients beyond current demands.
  • The Kansas City and St. Louis estimates include bistate census and bed count estimates.
